Ttangkkut Marine Natural History Museum (땅끝해양자연사박물관)

Part museum, part aquarium, the Ttangkkut Marine Natural History Museum is located at the southernmost tip of the Korean peninsula in Ttangkkeut Maeul Village, Songji-myeon, Haenam-gun. The director of the museum (Lim Yang-su) collected most of the museum pieces from countries all over the world during his 13 years as the captain of a pelagic fishing boat. Exhibits include artifacts and living specimens, all of which have been researched and categorized by a team of experts.

The museum aims to motivate people to explore, observe, and preserve nature by stimulating visitors’ curiosity through miniatures replicas of marine life. There are approximately 25,000 specimens on display including shellfish, coral, fish, mammals, crustaceans, fossils, reptiles, and insects from around the world.
