Namsan Hanok Village

Visiting the grandiose palaces of Seoul is a popular and essential experience while in Korea. But to truly appreciate the country one has to experience not only palace life but that of the common citizen. Namsan Folk Village is an excellent place to start, and there are few places in Seoul where you can experience so much for absolutely no cost.
Located on the northern side of Namsan Mountain, the village was constructed so that visitors could immerse themselves in Korean life during the Jeoson Dynasty. Many of the structures within were actually moved from their original location to protect them from Seoul’s rapid development. Although the village is located only a stone’s throw away from Myeongdong, one of the busiest areas of the city, strolling around the gardens and traditional houses, one would never know that they were in the middle of a metropolis.
The village boasts a wide variety of cultural experiences; play traditional Korean games, sit by the Koi-filled ponds and take in the scenery, explore immaculately kept traditional houses complete with furnishings, or walk among the gardens and gazebos.
